Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is banned. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of most borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that features a number of amenities in addition to the casino, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
