Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from nearby Thailand, where casino betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge casino, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that highlights numerous luxuries on top of the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight tables.
