Cambodia Casinos
There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that contains numerous luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
