Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that features a number of conveniences accompanying the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight tables.
